The Bridge Of Sorrows
Chapter 8 Sorrow

Chapter 8 Sorrow

It started getting foggy walking through the grass brush with the twins.

“What the hell is this place, Vanessa? It’s strange out here said Susanne.

“This is sketchy,” said Sara.

“I know, guys, but you will be shocked by what you are about to see. We made our way onto the bridge. Sara and Susanne said

“Whoa, where are we?”

“What if I told you that you could ask this bridge anything you wanted to know?” “Sara, would you like to know if you are going to the WNBA?”

“Hell yeah!” but what’s the catch?’’

I glanced at both twins and said, “You must offer something meaningful to yourself.”

“Like my pompoms?”

“I replied exactly, Susanne.”

“You’re full of shit, said Sara.

The twins laughed at me like I was a stand-up comedian. What can I say to persuade the twins to believe me? Should I tell them I mistakenly offered up my dearest friend, Dorris? Should I tell them about the baby, John?

“I’ll do it said Sara.’’

Wait! said Susanne.

Susanne dashed up to Sara. She delivered a devastating strike to the face. It was lightning fast as if lightning had struck the sky. I moved closer to the twins. They were facing each other as if they were going to fight. Sara’s nose began to seep blood. On her basketball and Susanne’s pompoms were covered in it.

“Are you crazy, Sara?” You’re passionate about this basketball. You scored 46 points with that basketball, and now you want to give it up for something you want to know?” “Vanessa’s words could be a prank or joke.

“Look at her expression, Susanne. When was the last time Vanessa laughed about something she was serious about?” I’m just curious if I’ll ever be able to play in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). I know I have the talent, and I grind my tail off every basketball practice at Washington State, but there is a lot of talent there. It can’t hurt to be informed, right?”

I had a carefree expression on my face. Deep down, I feel terrible, but this evil vibe in my mind is starting to influence how I think. Susanne took a step back from Sara and glanced at me with disgust. I’d never seen her like this before.

Sara turned around and held her basketball over the bridge’s ledge. She said aloud

“Can I  make it into the WNBA?”

A red glow emanated from beneath the bridge. Its outward aspect was unwelcoming.

“You will succeed if you continue to work as hard as you have, no matter how difficult it becomes. Keep an open mind regarding the people around you since not everyone is a friend.”

“Wow, holy shit, Vanessa was right!”

Susanne and I dashed toward Sara, peering over the bridge through the red glow. Susanne and Sara were astounded. I began to feel nostalgic since it reminded me of us when we were youngsters. We couldn’t believe it when we saw something spectacular for the first time. This crimson glow is unfamiliar to me. I’ve never seen this aspect of the deity before.

”I’m curious, Deity, why did you take the appearance of a bridge?” I continued.

Susanne and Sara stared at me, their eyes wide open. “Did you say, Deity Vanessa?”

I certainly did. They returned their gaze over the bridge’s ledge, slowly turning their heads.

“Wait, Vanessa, what do you have to give to the deity?”

I took three steps back from the twins and began to deliberate before sprinting toward them and pushing them over the bridge.

The Deity said,

“I disguised myself as a bridge to blend in with my surroundings.” My envious sisters attempted to kill me on the battlefield during a fight. However, I have abilities such as blending in and manipulating other people’s minds. I can also entice individuals to come to me. But, thanks to you, Vanessa, I got what I really needed. I have enough blood in myself to take the form of a human and carry out my mission, which is to get revenge on my sisters.

I got down on my knees. What did I do? Tears poured down my cheeks because I was so embarrassed with myself. I began to have flashbacks of what I’d done. This is not acceptable. I stood up and walked up to the bridge’s ledge.

I climbed to the bridge’s ledge and looked down. What I’ve done is far too much to bear. The crimson glow faded gradually. I turned around and fell backward. I could see Dorris, Baby John, and The Twins as I was falling. I know I can’t follow them where they are. The deity’s terrible laughter could be heard trailing after me.
